Video

Video classes are taught out of the Digital Art and Design Program – yet are open to all students at KCAD of Ferris University and is mandatory out of the photography program. This class explores the basics of video all the way to conceptual projects with group work. The goal in this course is to make it applicable to any major enrolling in the course post college.

Project: Videos as Concept GIFS

Introducing photohop timeline with frame and video animation as well as filming and capturing continuous movement in-camera to be imported and edited with Premiere Pro. This is an introductory to movement, timing, editing, slicing, importing and exporting without the daunting idea of storyboarding and more advanced editing techniques. Gifs are small videos and in a fast paced culture can be very strong in concept to get a point across.

Project: 1 minute videos

A project focused on social media formats and the applicability of the visual in pop culture and social media. This project encourages to film either as an exposure to an event or artist OR as a marketing tool for a product, company, or small business [this includes artists]. It is also encouraged that if a student has a body of work they are working on to stay true to their concept and make a video promoting that work. If seniors are in attendance of the course, it is heavily encouraged to create concepts through the semester that support their thesis-in-progress. This project dives further into editing techniques and tools in premiere pro while exporting in social media applicable formats.

Project: Concept / Narrative

This project is aimed at storytelling. The students can choose to either make a more narrative based film [think cinema and storyboarding] or conceptual fine art work. Each one is aimed to showcase a collective concept that the viewer can grasp. The video has to contain transitions, b-roll, laying audio track that is separate from the acquired footage and is within the time frame of 5-7 minutes. This project helps expand the students knowledge on video creating, filming, stability, audio, layering multiple tracks as well as forming a formed concept for the viewer to understand. Again, it is encouraged if the student is working on their final thesis to explore similar concepts to expand their work into a multimedia space.
